The Windmill at Windmill Hill

A Beautifully restored Post Mill

here for the Windmill Hill Windmill Trust web pages.

The Windmill at Windmill Hill Originally built in 1814 it was bought in 1820 by Richard Pocock and has had 10 owners until Paul and Bee Frost bought the mill in 1993. They managed to setup the Windmill Hill Windmill Trust to try to restore this mill.

The mill had full service through the 1800's until 1894 when the sweeps were taken down and steam power was installed to drive the grinding wheels, in 1913 the mill ceased grinding corn and over time went in to disrepair.
The mill is the second tallest post mill in England and had the only sweep govenor in the country fitted about 1876, which was patented by the mill owner at the time Charles Hammond who with his brother were linked with the Jack and Jill Mills at Clayton .

Now restored to near original condition the mill is open to the public.

Opening times:
The mill has been restored by a number of owners, is now run by the Friends of Windmill Hill Windmill ,
and is visitable by the general public, admission by donations, parking available.

The mill is open most Sundays and Bank Holidays 14:30 - 17:00 , but please visit the Windmill Hill Windmill website to check dates and avoid disappointment. here for the Windmill Hill Windmill Trust web pages.
